THUF Harmony and Peace Tournament Successfully Held in Nakivale Refugee Settlement

Theme: Unity for Sustainable Development

PNP Foundation successfully supported the implementation of the THUF Harmony and Peace Tournament held on 10th May 2026 at Kasasa Grounds, Basecamp, Nakivale Refugee Settlement.

The activity was organized by THRIVE UGANDA FOUNDATION (THUF) with support from PNP Foundation as part of ongoing efforts to promote peacebuilding, youth engagement, social cohesion, and sustainable community development among refugee and host communities in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.

The one-day tournament brought together youth from different villages and communities through football matches and peace dialogue sessions aimed at strengthening unity, teamwork, and peaceful coexistence.

Community Participation and Stakeholder Engagement

The tournament witnessed strong participation from both refugee and host communities within Nakivale Refugee Settlement. Youth, women, local leaders, coaches, referees, stakeholders, and community members actively participated throughout the activity.

The event was attended by several leaders and stakeholders including Councilor Kanyasti Frank, representatives from MIND HERITAGE LTD, village chairpersons, youth leaders, and other community representatives from participating villages.

Communities from Kasasa, Kabazana, Misyera, Kaswiina, Kigali, and neighboring areas participated peacefully in the tournament and dialogue sessions, creating an opportunity for interaction, cooperation, and community engagement through sports.

The activity reached and benefited an estimated population of over 1,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries drawn from refugee and host communities within Nakivale Refugee Settlement. Beneficiaries included youth players, women, local leaders, coaches, referees, stakeholders, and community spectators who actively participated in the tournament and dialogue sessions.

Alongside the football tournament, community dialogue sessions were conducted focusing on:

  • Peaceful coexistence
  • Youth engagement
  • Sustainable community development
  • Conflict prevention through dialogue
  • Unity between refugee and host communities

The dialogue sessions encouraged participants to use cooperation, teamwork, and peaceful communication as tools for addressing community challenges.
