Community Football Tournament in Rubondo

From 2 August to 21 December 2025, PNP Foundation coordinated a community football tournament in Rubondo Sub-Basecamp, Nakivale Refugee Settlement. The tournament ran for almost five months, with regular matches played each week.

A total of 12 football clubs took part, including teams from both refugee and host communities. Matches were organised on a home and away basis, which encouraged movement, interaction, and connection across different parts of the community. This helped bring people together beyond their usual areas and strengthened social ties.

The tournament gave young people a chance to stay physically active and fit through consistent training and competitive matches. At the same time, it supported psychological and social wellbeing by offering a positive space to release stress, build friendships, and develop teamwork and discipline. Many participants found purpose and routine through the regular match schedule.

Only players based in Rubondo were registered to play, allowing local talent to be seen and developed. Matches were officiated by local referees from Rubondo, giving them practical experience and confidence while ensuring fair and organised games.

Clear rules guided teams, referees, and officials throughout the tournament. These helped maintain respect, fair play, and calm handling of challenges during matches.

The tournament concluded on 21 December 2025, just before Christmas. New Mapendo FC emerged as the overall winner after consistent performance across the season. Beyond the results, the tournament created lasting value by promoting physical fitness, psychological wellbeing, and peaceful social interaction within the community.
